Bicycle Accidents in Florida

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Bicyclist Killed in Fatal Traffic Crash along Avenue of Arts Bridge West of Los Olas Blvd

Florida is the perfect state for bicycling. It’s almost always summer in the Sunshine State, which makes it ideal for pedestrian travel. Numerous Florida communities have established bike-friendly reputations or even started programs for ride-sharing due to the large number of bicyclists who depend on this alternative mode of transportation. Despite the many advantages of bicycling in Florida, bicycle collisions can result in serious and even deadly repercussions for riders.

Due to being almost totally unprotected while traveling, bicyclists often suffer severe or even fatal injuries when involved in traffic accidents. Injured individuals or their surviving family members are able to request financial compensation for damages they’ve endured, including lost wages, medical expenses, pain and suffering, and more.

However, a statute of limitations exists in personal injury cases in Florida, which means that you will have a certain amount of time from the date of your injury to file a claim. Currently, the statute of limitations is four years for personal injury, and two years for wrongful death. If your claim is brought against the city, county, or state, a 180-day investigatory period is required along with a three-year statute of limitations, or two years for wrongful death.

A Florida bicycle accident attorney will be able to help you figure out how you can file a personal injury or wrongful death claim if you or a loved one have recently been injured in a bicycle accident. You may be eligible to collect financial compensation for your injuries and losses depending on the circumstances of your recent crash.
