Sunrise, FL (November 19, 2021) – A driver who was stopped at a red light lost their life when they were rear-ended by a speeding Lexus SUV on November 18. The wreck happened at an intersection in Sunrise late Thursday, shortly before midnight, police said.
The badly damaged silver Nissan that was struck from behind remained at the intersection of Northwest 136th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard into the early morning hours of Friday, November 19 while emergency crews worked at the scene.
The wreck happened about a block from the Sawgrass Mills mall when the dark-colored Lexus was speeding north on 136th Avenue. The Nissan was waiting at the red light at the intersection with Sunrise Boulevard when the fatal collision occurred.
Medical professionals pronounced the driver of the Nissan deceased on-site. Both the driver and passenger present in the Lexus at the time were transported to Broward Health Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.
The intersection was closed in both directions for several hours as police investigated the circumstances of the wreck. Further details concerning those involved in the accident have not been reported at this time.
